Irene Peters, daughter of William and Martha Thieman Heideman, was born September 16, 1920, in Fremont Township of rural Bremer County, Iowa. She was baptized by Pastor Emil Stech on October 10, 1920, at St. Peter’s Evangelical Church in Tripoli, which would later become Faith United Church of Christ. She was confirmed there on April 9, 1933.
On November 8, 1945, she was united in marriage with Walter A. Peters at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church at Readlyn by Pastor Dornbusch. The couple farmed for many years on Walter’s parent’s farm before moving into Tripoli in 1982. While on the farm, Irene and Walter were members of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church of Readlyn.
In September of 2011, Irene entered the Tripoli Nursing Home where her death occurred this past Thursday, January 26, 2012. This was exactly nineteen years to the day of Walter’s death. Irene was ninety-one years old and was a member of Faith United Church of Christ. She always was interested in her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities, and while on the farm, enjoyed gardening and her animals. Later in life, she enjoyed crafts and crocheting when she was able to do so.
She is survived by one daughter, Janet (Larry) Ladage of Tripoli; two grandchildren, Tina Maloney and Aaron Ladage; four step grandchildren, Kip, Kurt, Kelly, and Karol Ladage; and sixteen great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Irene was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Leslie Heideman.
